Manobi, a private multi-channel service provider in Senegal, is easing the lives of farmers and fisherman by providing information on land resources management and real time market price data of agricultural produce over cellular phones. With African governments, realizing the potential of ICT, technology is catalyzing the economic growth engine of the continent, which once reeled under abject poverty, corruption, and war. With more than 650 million mobile subscribers in the continent, the continent has already moved ahead of the developed giants including the European Union and the US, in terms of mobile subscribers. This is the new dawn for the continent as ICT is driving the wheels of development and reducing poverty. Africa is utilizing ICT, to leapfrog over development stages and technology barriers to achieve both economic growth and broad-based development.
